Description
President Arthur G. Coons won the Rockefeller Foundation grant to "encourage the enrollment of talented Negro and other minority students and to improve their undergraduate education". The money was to be distributed in the following way: $240,000 for financial assistance on the basis of need to qualified students from Negro and other minority groups, and $35,000 for any of the following purposes: increasing Occidental's regular efforts to locate and recruit qualified Negro and other minority students; pre freshmen remedial programs; special tutoring, counseling, or other remedial or reinforcement work with the students; consultations and joint efforts with other college engaged in similar programs; and systematic record-keeping essential for analyzing and appraising this program experience.
