"Black student harassed by LAPD" - March 15, 1985, page 1, Oxy Weekly

Description

A black female student was harassed by a two Los Angeles Police Department officers near Eagle Rock Plaza in the Spring of 1985. Based on the report, the officer got out of his car and asked the student for her I.D. One of the officers accused her for being in front of a motel saying the reason he stopped here was that there was "a problem with young girls walking down the street trying to make extra money." The officer then searched her purse and harassed her about her relationship status and if she was receiving financial aid from the school. After the officers drove away, they stopped her once again asking if she ever went jogging around the Greek Bowl. The student could not identify the officer after the event. This was just one of several occasions of black Oxy students being stopped by LAPD officers.
